Well, the 2010 Chevy Equinox is looking to be the class leader in fuel economy, in the Crossover SUV Class. This is thanks to the Direct Injection 2.4L 4 cylinder engine option, which give the Chevy Equinox the class leading 30 mpg! Chevy’s marketing team says that the driving purchasing factor for the crossover SUV is fuel economy, so they expect the 4 cylinder suv to be a sales success.
I’m not sure that an SUV driver is willing to give up the power of a V6 engine though. And it seems Chevrolet might not be too sure either, as they are also offering a direct injection 3.0 L, V6 engine on the 2010 Chevy Equinox as well, that gets 25 mgp. Not too shabby on the fuel economy for a v6 SUV. Note that both these models would qualify for the Cash For Clunkers program (CARS) , however, it seems that the money for that program could already be gone (I’ll get to that in another post).
